The Emmanuel Ivorgba Center is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty and hunger, inequality and injustice through investments in education, health, and capacity development. The Ivorgba Center brings its experience working at the grassroots and in youth leadership development, leadership, education, human rights and democracy, intercultural dialogue, and community empowerment, aligning its previous efforts and pre-existing platforms to foster youth engagement and capacity building. The Ivorgba Center’s programs include economic empowerment and livelihoods development, social protection and basic services, workshops, mentoring, and capacity building activities that help women and young people develop leadership skills and become agents of positive change in their communities. The Ivorgba Center has a team of dedicated staff, made up of women and men, and local volunteers, with more than 40 years combined experience in education, democracy and human rights, academic research, women empowerment and gender issues, livelihood skills development, governance, advocacy grassroots community engagement and youth leadership development.
Overview of the Research Fellowship:
The Emmanuel Ivorgba Center Poverty Research Fellowship is dedicated to advancing understanding of poverty and its multifaceted causes, consequences, and solutions. We invite researchers, scholars, and practitioners from various disciplines to submit proposals for innovative research projects aimed at addressing poverty-related issues.
Objectives:
To support empirical research that contributes to the scholarly understanding of poverty.
To encourage innovative interventions and policy proposals that aim to alleviate poverty.
To foster collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and community organizations.
Eligibility:
Open to researchers at all stages of their careers, including graduate students, early career researchers, and established scholars.
Proposals may be undertaken individually or as part of a collaborative team.
Research Themes:
The Emmanuel Ivorgba Center welcome proposals that fall within a variety of themes related to poverty, including but not limited to:
Economic stability and employment
Health disparities and access to healthcare
Education and skills development
Housing and homelessness
Social protection systems
Neighbourhood and community dynamics
Intersectionality and discrimination
Impact of policy changes on poverty alleviation
Proposal Requirements:
Title: A concise title for the proposed research project.
Abstract: A brief summary (250 words) of the research project, including objectives, methods, and expected outcomes.
Research Design: A detailed description of the methodology, including data sources, analysis strategies, and any potential challenges and solutions.
Timeline: An estimated timeline for project completion, including key milestones.
Budget: A proposed budget outlining the financial needs for the project, including funding for personnel, materials, and other relevant expenses.
CV/Resume: A current CV or resume for the principal investigator(s) outlining relevant experience and publications.
Funding and Support:
Selected fellows will receive funding to support their research projects, as well as access to mentorship and networking opportunities. Additional resources may include workshops, seminars, and potential publication support.
